Jamie's Corner: The Idea

 What is Jamie’s Corner?

Jamie's Corner is a humorous look at life, in particular my life.

In the movies, I am not the elegant lady that walks down the stairs and charms her guests with grace and beauty. I am the one that trips on her gown, spills wine on her new dress and tries to carry on a conversation with spinach stuck in between her teeth. Years ago, it used to affect my sense of self and make my depression worse. But I no longer see it that way. A writer once told me anything that does not go smoothly in life makes for a good story. I agree. And I have lots of stories.

My story this week is Jamie and The Idea.

I pride myself on coming up with good ideas. The only problem is that they don't always go according to plan.

I have 3 dogs: Appa, Leonard and JD.
Appa is a beautiful, black and white short-haired border collie with a sweet, easygoing personality.
Leonard is an adorable chihuahua corgi mix who likes to walk around the house and search for food.
JD is a precious Pekinese, who resembles a teddy bear, and can be oversensitive and anxious at times.

Hoping to allay JD's anxiety, I started looking into ways to decrease his nervousness. Over a period of several weeks, I spoke to the veterinarian for ideas, a pharmacist, a dog trainer and several fellow pet owners. I finally made the decision to try pet chews with CBD in them. I selected the brand, chose the correct option for his weight, paid for the product, and brought it home. I put the bag on the family room table with the plan to give him one later that evening.

Appa noticed the bag  and looked interested in what was inside. Leonard, too, showed some interest. JD, however, paid no attention to the bag whatsoever. He walked right by it. Not to be deterred by his disinterest, since his sense of smell is not as acute as the other dogs, I put aside the bag until later. That evening, I took out the chew and gave it to JD. He walked away. I tried one more time, but the response was the same, complete and utter disinterest.

I was so sure I had come up with a good solution for JD's anxiety. I just forgot one thing-to ask JD what he wanted. Appa grabbed the treat and ran away. So, my already easygoing dog would become even more relaxed, and my anxious little teddy bear would remain as such.

So, the CBD dog treats were another idea that was relegated to the back of the closet. You know, the same closet we stored the dog toys that JD never played with, along with the dog stairs that none of the dogs could quite figure out (despite the multiple times we tried- LOL).

Hello! I am Jamie- a nurse, a wife, and a mother (of 2 great kids and 3 amazing dogs). I have also lived with chronic illness, including chronic depression, since I was a teenager. Many years later, I now thrive with my depression rather than simply survive. I started this blog to share info and my experience with severe, chronic depression because I want YOU to thrive as well!
