Jamie's Corner: What Day Is It?

What is Jamie’s Corner?

Jamie's Corner is a humorous look at life, in particular my life.

In the movies, I am not the elegant lady that walks down the stairs and charms her guests with grace and beauty. I am the one that trips on her gown, spills wine on her new dress and tries to carry on a conversation with spinach stuck in between her teeth. Years ago, it used to affect my sense of self and make my depression worse. But I no longer see it that way. A writer once told me anything that does not go smoothly in life makes for a good story. I agree. And I have lots of stories.

My story this week is Jamie and What Day Is It?

I play a fun little game called: What DAY is it?

I tend to play this game more around the holidays when my schedule changes due to get-togethers, holiday preparations or the holiday itself.

I wake up in the morning and check the day, the date, and my schedule for the day- like most people.

Later is when the game begins.

I might get a phone call, or someone will ask me a question involving the date.

OTHER PERSON: Are you available Monday at 3pm?

ME: I don’t know. What day is Monday?

OTHER PERSON: The day after Sunday.

ME: But how many days AWAY is it?

OTHER PERSON: Four days away- the same as every Thursday.

ME: Let me check my calendar. Ok, but which Monday IS it?

OTHER PERSON: The one that says the 8th.

ME: Are we in March or April?

OTHER PERSON: We are in May.

ME: Well, you could have let me know that.

OTHER PERSON: Are you available Monday May 8th for lunch or not?

ME: For lunch?

OTHER PERSON: Ugg…Yes, for lunch.

ME: Well, why didn’t you say food was involved? Of course, I’m available.

Hello! I am Jamie- a nurse, a wife, and a mother (of 2 great kids and 3 amazing dogs). I have also lived with chronic illness, including chronic depression, since I was a teenager. Many years later, I now thrive with my depression rather than simply survive. I started this blog to share info and my experience with severe, chronic depression because I want YOU to thrive as well!
