Jamie's Corner: The Gameshow

What is Jamie's Corner?

In the movies, I am not the elegant lady that walks down the stairs and charms her guests with grace and beauty. I am the one that trips on her gown, spills wine on her new dress and tries to carry on a conversation with spinach stuck in between her teeth. Years ago, it used to affect my sense of self and make my depression worse. But I no longer see it that way. A writer once told me anything that does not go smoothly in life makes for a good story. I agree. And I have lots of stories.

My story this week: Jamie and The Gameshow

Looking for a movie on a streaming device feels looking for a needle in a haystack. My father-in-law really wanted to watch the movie Jurassic Park. It took me a couple of days before I finally found it. I have to guess what streaming service the movie is on that month. Then, once I find it, I roll the dice and hope that there isn’t an extra charge for it.

It is so disappointing to finally find a movie on a service you pay for just to find out that you have to rent or purchase the movie. Why am I paying double for something?

I feel like I’m on a gameshow!

Pat: Welcome to Wheel of Movies! We are your hosts Pat Sanchez and Vanessa Keen. Thank you to our contestants for joining us tonight. Could you please introduce yourselves?

Linda: Hi, I’m Linda. I have 4 children. When I’m not cooking or cleaning, I have several hobbies. I collect tarantulas, bungee jumping, and I fly helicopters. Oh, I also enjoy crossword puzzles.

Pat: Welcome Linda. I guess you don’t get bored, huh? Next contestant, please introduce yourself.

Me: Well, my name is Jamie. I have 2 older children, several dogs, and my life plan is to win Worst Cook in America. My goal is to also find a movie to watch.

Pat: Hmm, lofty goals but welcome! Just so you know, there are three fabulous prizes that are on the wheel tonight. Hopefully one of you will be lucky enough to win one. Charlie, can you tell us about these fabulous prizes?

Charlie: Sure Pat. The first prize is an all-expense paid trip to Siberia for two. Enjoy this romantic getaway as you enjoy a cool 15 degrees below zero. Take the Trans-Siberian railroad to tour the countryside. Join a tour group to visit the famous Gulag Archipelago. You will be hiking and camping in the Ural Mountains for 14 wonderful days. The second prize is a beautiful brown 1973 Ford Pinto. The third prize is a full year paid extended car warranty.

Linda: (whispers). I hope I get the car warranty. My car warranty expired and I can’t get anyone to call me back about extending it.

Pat: Thank you Charlie. Linda, you get to go first. Please spin the wheel. Ok, you landed on the movie Pacific Rim. Linda, can you guess what streaming service has this movie?

Linda: Pat, is it on HBO?

Pat: Vanessa? Is her answer correct?

Vanessa: No. Pacific Rim left HBO Max in February. The correct answer was to rent it on Apple TV.

Pat: I’m sorry Linda. Jamie, would like to give the wheel a spin?

Jamie: I landed on Jurassic Park. Um, I’d like to guess Netflix,

Pat: I am so sorry. The correct answer to the puzzle is Peacock TV. Linda, it’s your turn.

Linda: I landed on Titanic. Oh my gosh! I won the extended car warranty! I’m going to guess Titanic is on Disney Plus.

Pat: I’m sorry Linda.  You are not correct. But congratulations on the car warranty!

Linda: Drat, I had a sinking feeling about that answer.

Pat: Well ladies, our time is up. Jamie, I’m sorry that you’re a loser. Linda, you did not do well either. But you are leaving here with a wonderful parting gift, congratulations on the car warranty!

Linda: I couldn’t be happier.

Jamie: I would have really liked to see the gulag in Siberia. But I had fun Pat and Vanessa.

Pat: Join us tomorrow night on Wheel of Movies!

I started this blog to share info and my experience with severe, chronic depression because I want YOU to thrive as well!
