Recovery Does not Mean the Damage Never Existed

"Recovery does not mean the damage never existed. It simply means it no longer controls you." - Unknown.

I came across this quote while researching post-traumatic stress disorder. I really like it because sometimes we are under the impression that we need to forget in order to heal. But, by forgetting, you won't heal. Sweeping a problem under the rug never works. How many times do we try this in our daily lives?

I believe forgetting also means forgetting a part of your life, a part of you. The goal is to turn the pain into love. Meaning, use it to help others rather than destroy yourself. It is not an easy process and I do not profess to have any expertise in this area. I just want to see you thrive in life rather than get stuck in that pit of despair and hopelessness. I can tell you this; I have met many people in my nursing career and my daily life that have done just this! There is hope!

There are many people out there who do not know you but wish you well. I do not have to know you personally to be a cheerleader for you. I just have to care.

Hello! I am Jamie- a nurse, a wife, and a mother (of 2 great kids and 3 amazing dogs). I have also lived with chronic illness, including chronic depression, since I was a teenager. Many years later, I now thrive with my depression rather than simply survive. I started this blog to share info and my experience with severe, chronic depression because I want YOU to thrive as well!
