Jamie's Corner: What's for Dinner?

In the movies, I am not the elegant lady that walks down the stairs and charms her guests with grace and beauty. I am the one that trips on her gown, spills wine on her new dress and tries to carry on a conversation with spinach stuck in between her teeth. Years ago, it used to affect my sense of self and make my depression worse. But I no longer see it that way. A writer once told me anything that does not go smoothly in life makes for a good story. I agree. And I have lots of stories.

My story this week: Jamie and What's for Dinner?

Living in Southern California means that we have access to a variety of restaurants and ethnic foods. Whatever you crave-Chinese, Indian, Thai, BBQ, Mexican- you can find it.

The hardest part? Deciding what to eat. Especially if you want to keep to a budget or a diet.

Does your Saturday night sound like this?

Me: Do you want to go get something to eat?

Husband: Sure. What sounds good to you?

Me: I don't know. I'm trying to be healthier. What sounds good to you?

Husband: I don't know. I don't want to spend too much money.

Me: Well, I don't want to travel too far.

Husband:  I'm thinking about tacos. How about Tio's Tacos?

Me: They are good but we went there the last two times. Delano's Deli? I could eat a ham sandwich.

Husband: I like Delano's but with traffic it will take over 45 minutes to get there. You said you don't want to travel too far. What about Cafe Blue?

Me: They are only open for breakfast and lunch.
Let's got to Backyard BBQ.

Husband: They're good and have healthy options. But it costs about $20 or more a plate now. What about a chicken sandwich at California Chicken? Oh wait, I forgot. They took the grilled BBQ chicken sandwich off their menu. You can only get fried chicken now.

Me: Hmmm. Ok. How about Hamburger Harry's? They serve low-fat, grass-fed beef.

Husband: I like Hamburger Harry's but they just closed the location next to us.

Me: What about Ghangis Khan's Mongolian BBQ?

Husband: We are going there next Saturday with the whole family. You know it's the kids favorite place. What about Pizza Paradise? They have some healthier options now.

Me: That sounds good but I don't want that many carbohydrates. Tio's Tacos?

Husband: Ok, grabbing the car keys.
