Jamie's Corner: Supermarket Safari!

In the movies, I am not the elegant lady that walks down the stairs and charms her guests with grace and beauty. I am the one that trips on her gown, spills wine on her new dress and tries to carry on a conversation with spinach stuck in between her teeth. Years ago, it used to affect my sense of self and make my depression worse. But I no longer see it that way. A writer once told me anything that does not go smoothly in life makes for a good story. I agree. And I have lots of stories.

My story this week: Jamie and Supermarket Safari!

Every weekend is the same- grocery shopping. And never, of course, just one store but at least 3-4.
Some stores I enjoy going to. You know the ones. Everything is organized, it is clean, it is not too big but big enough, and the clientele is calm and respectful. Then, there are the other stores. They may be clean, but aisles are blocked by extra merchandise or shopping carts. You feel like you are at an amusement park due to yelling kids, frazzled adults, and long lines. Lately, the hunt for my needed or favorite products has become, well, a hunt. I feel like I am on safari, looking for the elusive white tiger.

Welcome to Sensational Supermarket Safaris! I am your guide, Jandi Zaire. I will be helping you find what you are searching for, no matter how elusive, in this safari. I can help you find... the white tiger. But I have to tell you that every hunt and adventure is different. It's a jungle out there and we just never know what we'll come across. Does anyone have any questions before we begin?

Miss Organized: Yes, I do. I organized my lists in alphabetical order. Is that what most people do?

Jandi: You can organize your lists any way you want. But most people have one list for each location we scout. At the top of the list are your usual finds and discoveries. At the bottom of the list are the scarce items; the ones you hope to find. In other words, what we call here...white tigers. Any other questions?

Mr. Scared: How dangerous is it out there?

Jandi: Usually there aren't many issues. However, I always warn everyone to be aware of their surroundings. There can be a lot of competition out there and frustration levels can run high. After all, it is a jungle out there!

Mr. Always Prepared: Do you recommend any tools or supplies?

Jandi: I recommend brining a significant amount of currency, and an adventurer's best friend, a calculator. The objects we seek hold more value now than in time's past. And, as with any safari, bring lots of fluid. I don't want to lose anyone to dehydration. There was this one girl. Well, never mind, let's get ready to go.

Miss Worried: I am a little nervous.

Jandi: No need to be fearful Miss. Thousands of people make this journey every week. We did have a woman go into "sticker shock" last week. But, she recovered nicely. Now, let's get started. The first location we plan to visit today is Trader Henry's Emporium. Please have your frequent buyer cards ready and remember that any shopping bag you purchase is 10 cents. Let's go find that white tiger people!!!!
